CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
The beginner-friendly classes start Friday evening and continue Saturday morning. Classes get more advanced as the workshop progresses. New dancers who begin on Friday will obtain the fundamentals necessary to complete the entire weekend. These foundation classes are also recommended for intermediate and advanced dancers.
It is highly recommended that dancers sign up for complete days (i.e., all of Saturday and/or all of Sunday), as the classes will complement each other. Registration for single classes are subject to instructor approval to ensure that all registrants will be adequately prepared to benefit from the classes.
FRIDAY: Foundation
1. INTRODUCTION TO LINDY AND BLUES
This beginner friendly class cover the footwork, connection, and basic movement patterns of these two wonderful dances - a great choice for those just beginning to dance and those wishing to brush up on their basics.
SATURDAY: Focus on Lindy Hop
2. THE SWINGOUT
As the foundation of lindyhop, this move cannot be practiced enough. Learn how to make the swingout effortless, adaptable, and amazingly fun. Everyone with an interest in lindyhop should take this class, regardless of level.
3. CONNECTION
Connection is the language of all social dancing, and perhaps of social interaction in general. Cultivating a deep understanding of how to speak and listen within this wordless framework will improve your dancing exponentially.
4. REDIRECTION
Learning how to redirect your partner’s energy is the basis for many powerful and awesome moves. We will learn these moves.
5. CONTRAST
If you had to stare at a blue wall for four minutes, you might think the blue was pleasing to the eyes at first, but after a minute, you'd be aching for something different. As with the eyes, the body likes to feel contrast in movement. This class cultivates an awareness of contrast and how to create it within a lindy framework.
6. UNLOCKING CREATIVITY
Learn the tricks and techniques for finding your inner source of creativity and letting it shine. Leave your inhibitions at the door. Or bring them with and we'll take care of them.
SUNDAY: Focus on Blues and Groove
7. THE GROOVE
This class focuses on the groovier music and movements of swing dancing. Learning to express subtle rhythms will have a huge impact on your dancing.
8. THE REACTION
Letting your body react to another person's thoughts can be difficult, but when done correctly can be very rewarding. This class will walk you through how to read the other person clearly, and how to time your subsequent reactions.
9. BREATHING
We all do it. Find out how to make it a part of your blues dancing.
10. SHOWING OFF
Taking things to a faster, flashier level, this class is about being noticed. We will consider the effects of intention, appearance, catchy moves and polish on the dance.
11. ADDING TANGO
For those who want to spice up their slow dancing, argentine tango is the place to look. This class takes the edge of tango and blues and mixes them together.
